| Kenai is a very special boy,
not least because he was hand-reared by his breeders David
Patterson and Helen Fielden after the tragic death of his
mother when he was only 5 days old.
Beautiful, affectionate, playful and
sensitive, Kenai is impressive and loveable while
maintaining an element of wildness that gives him a wolfish
majesty. His show career started very well with a RBD at the
first SSHC Open Show while he was still a puppy, and with
his typy expression and sound, far reaching movement he
would have gone on to great things if it were not for an
accident at SKC shortly afterwards that put him off showing
for life.
Because of this he is only ever
shown in Stud Dog classes and he has done very well indeed,
winning many trophies and rosettes for the quality of his
offspring.
In harness Kenai raised the speed
and forward drive of the team in his younger days, running a
fast and determined lead. As he grew older he settled into
wheel, and works there with enormous strength and
resilience. He is the driving force that takes me up hills,
and I really miss his tendency to pull hard when running up
hill now that he is working with his sons Volk and Lupus in
my veteran team.
Kenai is the proud father of three
litters, and is a very prepotent sire. He stamps his type
and working ability on his offspring - they are often like
little copies of their Dad! All his children are proven in
harness and a large proportion are leaders. His daughter
Echo has won 2 RCCs and three of his children have won Stud
Book numbers.
Kenai's other abilities include a
voice like an air-raid siren, a fascination with "giving a
paw" (something that appears to be hereditary!) and an
irrational fear of piggy ear treats. Kenai is definitely a
dog in a million! |
