| Star
by name and star by nature, Onieda is a very special girl. I
had wanted a puppy from her father Kola for many years, but
it wasn't until he was ten years old that, against all odds,
he sired the litter that produced Onieda. Sensitive, caring,
calm yet lively, and sometimes frighteningly intelligent,
she is a wonderful do to be with - a quiet friend who loves
but doesn't judge.
Known by everyone as 'Naughty Needa'
when she was little, she wrecked more of the house than some
of the more obviously mischievous pack members and accounted
for two three piece suites single-handed. Stealing, playing,
digging and generally having fun was the rule of Onieda's
puppyhood - all counteracted by a beautiful face and a pair
of very deep eyes. I could forgive this dear girl anything!
In harness Onieda has become a very
reliable leader. She can occasionally get distracted if
there is anything interesting just by the trail, but
her devoted nature means that she is easily corrected by
just mentioning her name, and she keeps the team moving
well. She also enjoys working in team and has good endurance
and strength.
As a show dog she has done very
well, regularly placed at Championship level and keen to
show off her smooth movement and sparkling temperament.
Before the birth of her puppies she could be rather giddy in
the ring and tended to spoil her chances by messing around,
but now she has the responsibilities of a mother she is much
steadier and I have great hopes for her show prospects in
the future.
Onieda's venture into motherhood
was a wonderful experience for both of us. She took it all
in her stride and dealt with the rearing and training of her
babies with a calm professionalism that I can honestly say I
didn't feel! She still keeps a close eye on daughter Bilka -
making sure she behaves herself in the pack and keeps her
ears clean! |
