Proposed Litter 2007
Gwaihir Kenai Sinner of Wayreth & U'Maigan Koulak of Athabaskan's Bogeyman at Wayreth

These puppies are all spoken for, but in the event that one of their new owners has a change of circumstances there would be a place on the waiting list available.

These pups will be suitable for experienced working/show homes ONLY.

Puppies of any breed are lovely, and Siberians are perhaps more attractive than most. It is very important not to be beguiled by that lovely face and soft fur - your bundle of fluff will grow up to be a working sled dog, bred for generations to do a job of work in the harshest environment on earth.

Sadly, many people buy puppies not realising what they are getting into, and as a result an increasing number of Siberians are finding themselves without loving homes through no fault of their own. Because of this, if you have done all your research and are convinced that a husky is for you, then I would advise you to consider offering a home to a Welfare Siberian. You can find contact details for the Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain and the Scottish Siberian Husky Club on the Links page. Both of these breed clubs have schemes for rehoming dogs who have fallen on hard times and will give you advice and guidance on what you need to do.

If you have already got a Welfare dog, or if you are looking for a particular bloodline, then again the breed clubs can put you in touch with responsible breeders who have puppies available or who have spaces on their waiting lists. You must be prepared to wait for a good Siberian, as the best breeders' stock are in great demand. The fact that a breeder has a waiting list is a good guide to the fact that they are caring and responsible enough to make sure that they check out the people who are interested in their pups as carefully as possible.

A PUPPY BUYER'S FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. Are there ny health checks I should expect the parents of my puppy to have?

A. Yes. All my dogs have regular eye tests for Hereditary Cataracts, Primary Glaucoma, Corneal Dystrophy and Persistent Pupilliary Membrane. All breeding stock is x-rayed and hip scored prior to mating.

Q. Will you check my house and garden?

A. Yes. Knowing that there is going to be adequate space for the puppy, and that there are suitable fences is very important to me. I also like to meet all the members of the family to make sure that the puppy will be happy in his or her new home. If you live a very long way from us, I might ask a local husky owner I know to visit instead.

Q. Will you sell me a dog for breeding purposes?

A. No. All our puppies leave us with a contract which states the puppy is to be a companion, and will not be considered as breeding stock until a variety of conditions have been met (including medical checks and working ability) and even then there is no guarantee that he or she will be suitable for breeding. All our pups have endorsements on their registration documents to prevent them being bred from without my permission.

Q. Can I have one of your puppies if I work full time?

A. Although it is not ideal to be away from home for a lot of the day, it is difficult to afford the lifestyle your dog will expect unless you work. However I will not allow a puppy to go to a home where there will not be humans around all the time unless you already have other dogs. Huskies are very social and do not cope with being alone - they find it stressful and upsetting and will fret and howl. If the puppy will be living as part of an established pack then I am happy for his or her new owners to be out during some of the day, but I will not allow a puppy to go to a home where he or she will be the only dog unless they are going to be with their new owner all the time.

Q. How do you decide who gets which puppy?

A. Because I only breed when I need new team members, puppies will only be available after I have made my choice. If the sire of the litter is not one of my own dogs, his owner has the first choice of puppies. I will always give priority to experienced working homes. Beyond these considerations I always try to make sure that each person gets the puppy best suited to their family.

Q. Are there any other important things I will have to agree to?

A. Yes. I guarantee that you will have help and support throughout your dog's life. In return I insist that if for any reason you can't keep your dog, he or she is immediately returned to me. You will also have your dog's eyes tested at around 1 year of age by a specialist approved by the KC and BVA.

If you would like to know more about the breed, or apply for a place on our waiting list, then please email me on info@wayreth.co.uk. Make sure you have a subject on your message or it will be swallowed by my Spam filter!
