| Blaidd
was my third husky, and was my lead dog for many years. He
ran single lead and was always very reliable. He hated to
run in any other position, and just refused to work if
hitched in anywhere but lead.
Blaidd's show career was short, as
like his sister Cilla he always preferred leading the team
down the trail, but he won a couple of Best of Breeds at
open level, and provided a great deal of entertainment to
the ringside with his lack of application to the job in
hand.
Blaidd was a serious minded dog who
was Shamanu's "right hand man" and insisted that the younger
pack members behaved themselves when he was around. He
retired himself from harness work once he wasn't able to
keep up the sort of pace he was happy with, and spent a few
years enjoying the role of sofa dog and pack enforcer.
Blaidd was taken from us suddenly
just two months from his 16th birthday as the result of a
catastrophic gastric torsion. Up until that time he had been
a very fit and healthy lad, which made his loss even more of
a shock.
There is a space on the sofa
here where you used to sit, and a space in my memories which
will always have your name on it, dear Blaidd. Lead my first
team across the sky old boy, until I come to stand on the
runners again. |
